2nd Time Moms Luncheon

His little bro on the right just gave him the fire truck. :)

  • Place: Da Nonna Rosa, 140 7th Ave, Park Slope
  • Date & Time:  Thursday, Feb. 16th, 12:00-2:00 PM
  • Cost: $33 in advance, $40 at the door (please RSVP if you plan to pay at the door)
  • RSVP: chana@babybites.com

If you are either pregnant with your #2 OR have just given birth to your #2, we hope you will join us for this special 2nd Time Moms Luncheon, where we will have not one, but two experienced moms of two offering tips, advice, and support, and answering all of your questions relating to this big transition…with a focus of our time dedicated to your sleep/sharing a room questions (because we know that’s a topic that is of concern to many parents).

Rachel Cedar who runs You Plus Two Parenting, a company dedicated to helping moms transition from 1 to 2 will be co-facilitating this discussion along with Chana Balk, who runs babybites Brooklyn and Move It Momma.

Come with your baby (#2′s only — sorry, the toddlers/preschoolers are not invited this time) and your questions — we’ll start the conversation by going around the room, hearing the questions/topics on YOUR mind.

Plus . . . enjoy a delicious lunch, get some quality time with your #2, meet other second time moms, and get to vent about how you’re supposed to stay up all night with a newborn and then be ready for a 2 year old at 6 am (argh!!!).

We look forward to seeing you there!

Working Moms Monthly Drop In Facilitated Support Groups

Working moms, we hear you.

We know how hard it is being superwoman, and we know how important and beneficial it is for you to have a place where you can come together with other working moms who are experiencing all the same things that you are experiencing.  We also know that sometimes committing to a 6 week support group is not doable.

We are therefore thrilled to let you know that we have joined forces with Rachael Ellison of REworking Parents to offer working moms a MONTHLY DROP-IN SUPPORT GROUP, where you will be able to drop in each month and have the opportunity to connect with other working moms, ask the questions you’ve been afraid to ask, have a glass of wine, or two, and laugh, vent, cry, share and learn with other women who know what you’re going through … all under the expert guidance of a professional facilitator.

Each month, a different topic will be explored and discussed, including topics such as:

  • How to create a guilt free zone

  • Finding balance — how to not have a nervous breakdown when trying to do it all

  • Making work work — how to deal with boss, co-employees who view you differently now that you’re a mom, how to ask for flex time without looking like a slacker, etc.

  • 50/50 – Really?  We both have jobs.  How come I am the only one makes her doctor appointments.  How come I am the only one who knows she needs new socks?  How come I make dinner 6 nights a week?

  • How to make your caregiver situation work for you — building good communication, managing guilt, setting boundaries, etc.

  • Working from home/flexible career moms — how to make working from home work for you

  • Changing careers after becoming a mom — should you do it? how?

  • You Time — how to find it
  • and more!

Groups will be limited in size, and we’ll be sure to poll the room at each meeting so that we are sure to cover what YOU want to talk about.

Come together each month to:

  • connect with other working moms who GET IT
  • have a glass of wine (or two)
  • get support
  • talk about the topics that matter to YOU
  • have fun!

Come to talk, come to listen, come to relax. There are 43,200 minutes in a month – shouldn’t 120 of them belong just to you?

How It Works

Where: Each session will take place at a bar/restaurant in a semi-private space, and our intention is to alternate neighborhoods so that we can accommodate more moms.

When: Each monthly one hour session will begin promptly at 7:00 PM, but you will be encouraged to arrive as early as 6:30 PM so that you have time to order a drink, unwind, and mingle with other moms before the session begins.  We also may switch up the night each month in order to accommodate more moms.

Cost: $25 per session (prepayment required) OR purchase a 4-pack (to use on the months of your choosing) for $80 ($20 savings).*

*Food and beverage available for additional cost.

Signing Up/Prepayment:

We know that as a working mom, you may not know until the day of the meeting whether you will be able to come, and we also know that we want to make sure that the right # of moms attend, so as soon as you know that you would like to attend a particular session, email us immediately to let us know.  As soon as we have a minimum of  6 moms interested in attending, we will email you the green light to prepay (at the paypal button below).  We will allow a maximum of 12-14 moms per session, and we fully anticipate — based on the feedback we have gotten from working moms — that this series will be super hot and fill quickly, so be sure to RSVP early.

Taking Care of Mommy

Congratulations on the birth of your baby!  Of course, as a new mom, you have been focusing all of your attention and energies on your little bundle of joy.  But what about you?  Who has been paying attention to mommy’s needs?

babybites Brooklyn is here to do just that.  We — together with Momasphere, who are co-presenting this exciting event with babybites — have put together “Taking Care of Mommy,” where we will have a lineup of professionals on hand (all certified/licensed in their field), each at their own “station,” to cater to YOUR needs (not baby’s — though baby is invited to attend, of course):

  • a postnatal yoga instructor who will conduct a mini yoga session with you
  • physical therapist specializing in postnatal issues who will check you for diastisis and other common postnatal conditions and demonstrate ways that you can start to heal
  • a professional Soho salon hair stylist who will consult with you on your best look & cut
  • an acupuncturist/chinese herb practitioner who will discuss postpartum care from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, including herbal and dietary solutions to common health issues facing new moms.
  • postnatal fitness instructor who will perform mini drills with you and show you how to work out with baby
  • Babeland sex specialist offering tips and toys to help you reclaim your pre-mommy sexual desire
  • skin and makeup consultant who will offer samples to help you feel beautiful even when you are a sleep-deprived new mom
  • photographer who will be there to take a beautiful photo of you and your baby
  • a postnatal certified massage therapist who will offer shoulder rubdowns
  • a 2nd postnatal massage therapist who will offer shoulder rubdowns (so everyone gets a turn!)

This will not be a typical seminar.  Rather, moms will have the opportunity to move from station to station, experiencing each mom-focused activity and learning valuable and practical tips along the way.  Of course, moms will also have the opportunity to ask questions of the professionals.

And that’s not all.  Each of our professionals will be donating their services as raffles so that:

  • one lucky mom will win a free personal training session
  • two lucky moms will win a free massage
  • one lucky mom will win a free haircut
  • one lucky mom will win a free package of skincare and makeup
  • one lucky mom will win a new fun sex toy
  • one lucky mom will win free photographs of you and baby

you get the idea….

Moms, its time to take care of you (even if its only for an hour and a half).

We are really excited about this event and hope you are too —  we look forward to seeing you there!

babybites Brooklyn is thrilled to be co-presenting this event with Momasphere.  A portion of the proceeds from this event will go toward Children of the City.

Having Your Pie & Eating it Too — Finding Work Life Balance

GREAT DISCUSSION. AMAZING PIE. AND JUST ADDED…NECK/HAND MASSAGES!  WORKING MOMS, KEEP READING.

Whether you are still adjusting to motherhood after baby’s first 6-weeks at home or you’ve been back at work for years, finding time for family, career, and ourselves is a struggle for all moms.  In this workshop, we’ll talk about how to find fun and passion in your work and life, and how to win the battle for balance.

While eating award-winning pie at 4&20 Blackbirds (featured on the Cooking Channel, NYT, NYMag, NPR, and recently rated one of the top 10 pie-makers in the country by Bon Appetite), we will discuss:

  • how many slices in your pie? — we’ll map out how you spend your time and learn how we make decisions when it comes to work and life.
  • re-slicing — we’ll help you find your “hidden flexibility”, and learn how you can re-allocate your time to better fit your priorities.

Plus, connect with other moms like you and learn about how they make it work!

And what does a tired, hardworking momma seeking balance really need?  A few minutes of a shoulder or hand massage, that’s what!   We are thrilled to let you know that in addition to the illuminating discussion and delicious pie, Lena Posner of Red Moon Massage Therapy will be in attendance offering much needed mini neck/shoulder/hand massages (your choice).

And, as if that’s not enough, we will also send you each home with a VIP gift bag of Motherhood and Baby products fromBelli — a skin care line formulated with the highest safety standard to address the unique concerns of expecting moms, new moms and babies.

The session will be lead by the amazing coach and consultant, Rachael Ellison of REworking Parents. Rachael works with parents of all backgrounds to help them find satisfying and rewarding work while maintaining work-life balance.

Have Your Baby and Business Too!

.

Motherhood is an incredible time to re-evaluate your professional goals and opportunities. In recent years, starting your own business has become an increasingly popular option for moms with young children.

For some women, starting their own business is a dream that they have always had, while for others it is an option they have only begun to consider. Often, going back to a former career proves to be an unappealing option, and going out on their own seems to be the best way to attain the balance, flexibility, autonomy, and creative outlet that they desire.

Regardless of the origin, the questions are inevitable…Is it possible? What should I know? Where do I to start?

babybites is thrilled to be hosting Have Your Baby & Business Too! – an evening of discussion with several successful moms who have created amazing businesses to meet their creative, professional and family needs. Panelists (whose bios are below) include:

Meet real women — just like you — who have started businesses in order to create work that works for them.

Light refreshments will be served.

Only lap babies allowed (no toddlers please). We look forward to seeing you there!

PANELISTS’ BIOS:

Hannah Macdonald, a former marketing executive for Tommy Hilfiger, met SaSaDi Odunsi in a prenatal yoga class. They became friends in mommy & baby yoga after their sons Auden & Ethan were born in 2006. Immersed in Park Slope’s unique parenting community, they gained an intimate understanding of Brooklyn’s stylish, sophisticated pregnant set and realized they had more in common than motherhood: they shared a passion for fashion and the years of experience needed to pull off a successful fashion venture designed for moms like them. After surveying their local network of moms and seeking out cutting-edge collections, Hannah and SaSaDi openedBump in June 2007.

A little over 4 years ago, Desiree Detoyand her husband came upon a small space for rent in their neighborhood of Prospect Heights/Crown Heights.  Desiree’s husband, having had close to twenty years of experience in the restaurant business, and Desiree, having had various jobs in administration and management decided to put their heads together and open a restaurant of their own, Chavella’s. Close to two years later, they were preparing for the birth of their son.  Desiree left her day job as an Educator/Outreach Coordinator at the New York Aquarium and turned into a full-time entrepreneur and shortly thereafter, a mother. As Desiree continues to face the many challenges and demands of being self-employed and raising a young child, she is constantly reminded of the benefits as her son pushes in the door of her office — against the nanny’s will — to say hello to mommy.
