Positive Discipline & Dealing With Temper Tantrums

  • When: Date TBD
  • Where: TBD
  • Cost: $25/single, $35/couple (prepayment required below)
  • RSVP: chana@babybites.com

During this workshop, Dana Rosenbloom of Dana’s Kids will help you learn how how to effectively use positive discipline and limit-setting to help your child begin to internalize “the rules” and learn self-control.  We will discuss how consistency helps children feel safe and builds self-esteem, as well as how it reinforces discipline and limit-setting.   You will learn developmentally appropriate expectations and think about your child’s temperament and your parenting style.  Finally, we’ll talk about “fighting the battles worth winning” and how to handle temper tantrums.  And, of course, there will be plenty of time for Q and A.

Dana Rosenbloom has a master’s degree in Infant and Parent Development and Early Intervention and has been working with children and families for over 10 years. Dana’s Kids provides parent education, play therapy, special education services, parent workshops and support groups, and professional development. School At Age 2?  Exploring Your School & Non School Options for Your Baby

So, it feels like you just had a baby, and already people are asking you whether you are applying for a 2′s program for your little one!  Or maybe you are thinking that it might be nice to send your little person to something next year, but you’re not sure whether school, daycare, a preschool co-op, or maybe just a few classes are the right fit for you and your little one.  After all, how do you make this assessment when you have a 14m old?

Deciding whether your toddler will be ready for school at age 2 is not an easy decision to make.  babybites Brooklyn wants to help.

We have enlisted the guidance of educator Sarah Carlson, who along with an experienced mom of two, will help you figure this out.  We will explore the following topics:

  • does your 2 yr old need school — why/why not
  • what to consider when deciding whether to apply for a 2′s program when you have a baby (and when/how/where to apply)
  • pros/cons/factors to consider when deciding between a school setting vs. a home setting for a 2 year old
  • what a preschool coop can offer — how it works etc.
  • differences between preschool and daycare (for your 2 yr old)
  • how a 2 yr old learns/best ways to teach your two year old (whether you choose school or not)
  • practical considerations (what about your nanny, what if you have a 2nd child etc…)

We hope that this discussion will provide some clarity for you, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Please note — while we love your toddlers, in the hopes of having a mostly uninterrupted discussion, only not-yet mobile babies (no toddlers!) are invited to this event.

Sarah Carlson, MS Ed received her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Elementary Education from Bank Street College of Education, which encouraged her already established love of teaching, learning, and seeing children as full of unique potential. Since then, she has taught in a variety of diverse environments including both public and private schools, as well as private homes, in New York, New Jersey, and London. She currently teaches coop playschools for two and three year olds in Park Slope and she recently founded A Child’s Space, a company which consults and creates play and learning spaces in the home, aimed at inspiring creativity, confidence, and independence within each child.

Toddler Sleep Seminar

Once baby starts growing into toddlerhood, all sorts of sleep issues may come up.  Perhaps  you have a 14m old who needs to be rocked to sleep?  Or maybe your previously late sleeper is now waking at 5 am?  Or maybe your 21m old fights sleep every night and your #2 is due to arrive next month!

Whatever your toddler sleep issue may be, we hope you will join us for this special TODDLER SLEEP SEMINAR with pediatric sleep specialist Dr. Whitney Roban of SLEEP-EEZ KIDZ. We’ll be sure to poll the room so that your specific issue is covered, and Dr. Roban will leave ample time for Q and A.

Topics will include:

  • Is it too late for my toddler to become a great sleeper?
  • When should I move my child from a crib to a big kid bed?
  • When should my child give up napping?
  • How do I end the bedtime battles?
  • Why is my toddler still waking in the middle of the night?
  • How do I end the early morning wakings?
  • How do I sleep train my toddler with a new baby at home?
  • Can my kids share a room and still be great sleepers?

Dr. Whitney Roban received her M.A. in Psychology from New York University and her Ph.D. in Clinical and School Psychology from Hofstra University.  She has worked as a child development clinician in individual and group settings, as well as an applied social researcher.  Dr. Roban is now devoting her time away from her two very well rested sons to help other parents and caregivers struggling with childhood sleep problems.  Dr. Roban created SLEEP-EEZ KIDZ, a comprehensive and easy-to-understand approach to sleep training which is tailored to a families’ individual needs.  The SLEEP-EEZ KIDZ method, combined with the sensitive and compassionate support of Dr. Roban, gives parents and caregivers the knowledge and emotional strength they need to get their children sleeping through the night.

End Your Child’s Resistance to Eating Right

Are you always battling with your child at mealtimes?

Are you frustrated by your child’s unwillingness to try new foods?

Do you wish you could wean your kids off the Pizza, Pasta and Nuggets Diet?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then we hope you will join us as Dina Rose of Its Not About Nutrition discusses how changing the way you think about nutrition will change your children’s eating habits – instantly.

Dina will discuss:

  • How to use taste, texture and appearance to expand vegetable consumption
  • How to avoid the common ways parents inadvertently teach bad eating habits
  • What the 10 Most “Dangerous” Foods are

This seminar will not teach you more about nutrition (you already know enough about that), and it will not give you recipes or menus to follow (you already know about those too).  Instead, this seminar will give you a novel way to apply what you already know.  Its a simple method for making food and eating choices that can be used with different children, at different times and in different situations.

Dina R. Rose has a PhD in sociology from Duke University.  She has over 15 years experience in teaching and research.  Just as importantly she is a mother and a foodie.  Dina has been studying how parents teach their children to eat since her daughter was little and she offers seminars and individual coaching on this topic.
